Dog Breeds - Belgian Sheepdog

Return to Breed List

One of the four Belgian Sheepdogs, the Belgian Shepherd also known as “Groenendael”, is the most popular. This breed is black in color, and may have touches of grey or white. They are muscular, athletic and agile. The Belgian Sheepdog is sometimes shy and must be socialized at a young age. This breed requires a lot of early socialization, and firm (but not harsh) training from an experienced trainer. Harsh training tends to make Belgian Sheepdogs uncooperative. They usually form a very strong bond to their family and can easily suffer from separation anxiety. They are usually extremely protective by nature and relatively suspicious of strangers, which make them excellent police/guard dogs.

QuickCare Gold for Dogs

Our cat Curtis, fondly known as “The Little Guy,” only weighs 7 lbs. When he was about four years old, we decided to get him pet insurance from PetCare at the recommendation of our vet. You see, Curtis has a sensitive digestive system and is on a special diet to help him through everyday life. Unfortunately you can’t predict everything. In this past year, Curtis has had two operations - one for foreign body ingestion and a second for gastroenteritis. After submitting our claim, PetCare immediately reimbursed me for both operations and I am grateful for the role that PetCare has taken in caring for Curtis' life. He loves his life and we love him. Thanks PetCare!
